Do you know that feeling, when you get all warm and fuzzy inside? When you want to cry, but also smile too much? You want to hugg someone you love and just marvel at that overwhelming feeling. That’s how it felt reading The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak. It’s one of the best books I have read, in all my life.
Hi ‘The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak’
I guess, everything happens for a reason. Am glad the bookclub happened and Anupama got in touch. Her love for Rumi was the instigation and the eventual borrowing of this book. I was in love from the 5th page of this book. I can’t thank Anupama enough <3. The Forty Rules of Love, is the story of Rumi and Shams of Tabriz, their beautiful relationship that blossoms to enrich each of their lives. This story runs parallel to the life of Ella, who doesn’t believe in love and only ends up to discover, she never knew love at all.
This book is a collection of anecdotes of wonderful words and thoughts. Words that strike a chord in you, makes you pause for a breathe, making you savor each word as it sinks in and you live in that moment. Elif Shafak was an author I didn’t know and now she is an author I never will forget. The Forty Rules of Love, is a dream for a booklover like me. I floated with the book in a cloud of words, admiring how much words can make you feel.
A Wonderful Introduction to Rumi
The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak, will be a book I own, a treasure that will pass on for the generations to come. This book really has the power to touch one’s life and I am damn sure I will introduce this book to everyone I know will be touched by it. How wonderful an introduction to Rumi, not through his words but to the person, Rumi.
More than Rumi, the Sham of Tabriz is the one who defines and introduces Rumi to you. Everyone is the same at the start, but who they choose to be and the things they do, is what will make all the difference, making them stand apart from being just like everyone else. The words come to you, when you experience, think and more so understand on a whole new level. These words that you then weave, will not only change your own lives but also the ones who will read it.
Elif Shafak is one such word wizard, who sets you afloat with her blend of words. She intrigues you with the thoughts but also about Rumi.
The Book will stay on…
The Forty Rules of Love, had umpteen passages I read and re-read, everytime feeling an elation and basking in the different meanings it brought me. I will compile the many quotes from this book I loved in the following posts.
It astounds me as to how deeply this book connects within me. Afterall, I guess I do believe ‘Love’ to be the highest form of anything. Not being romantic, but baring it out in the open – ‘Love’ is the highest form of gift, you give yourself and the others around you. It has the strength to help you get through things and the power to change someone. Love in noway means, to hold someone tying them down to you, but to have no expectations.
The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak is a book that live on in me, with me.
